Sound Healing

The medicine of vibration…

What is sound healing?

Sound healing is a powerful and ancient practice that uses sound frequencies and vibrations to bring the body, mind, and spirit back into balance. Everything in the universe vibrates including us. When we’re stressed, unwell, or emotionally overwhelmed, our natural rhythm can become disrupted. Sound healing works by gently guiding us back into a more harmonious state. Using specific tones and vibrations, this practice helps to alter the brainwaves, regulate the nervous system, and support the body’s natural ability to heal.

At Cedar House Retreat, we offer deeply relaxing and transformative sound healing experiences using a range of instruments—Himalayan singing bowls, handcrafted in Nepal, Quartz crystal bowls, gongs, drums, chimes, voice, and more.

The instruments in our sound healing sessions are each chosen for their unique frequencies and healing qualities. Tibetan bowls offer earthy, grounding tones that support deep relaxation, while crystal bowls bring pure, high-frequency vibrations that uplift and clear energetic blockages. Gongs create powerful, immersive waves of sound that encourage deep release and renewal. Drums and rattles provide rhythmic, energising pulses that connect us to the primal heartbeat of life. Chimes, rain sticks, and flutes add gentle, melodic textures that awaken the senses, and the voice—through spoken word, toning, or Kirtan—brings the healing power of intentional sound and sacred chant. Whether experienced in a group sound bath or one-to-one session, these instruments come together to create a soundscape that is both restorative and deeply nurturing.

The Benefits of Sound Healing

People come to sound healing for many reasons, including stress and anxiety relief, better sleep, and emotional clarity. It can support mental health by calming the nervous system, reducing overwhelm, and helping to regulate mood. Many people also experience physical releases—such as tension melting away or chronic pain easing—as the vibrations move through the body. Sound healing can enhance focus, spark creativity, and provide a grounded sense of peace during life transitions, periods of grief, or burnout. It may also nurture a gentle feeling of spiritual connection, even for those who don't consider themselves spiritual. Sound healing is a powerful complementary therapy that helps restore balance and well-being on emotional, physical, and energetic levels.

How Does It Feel?

Each sound healing experience is unique—some people feel emotions gently rise and release, others simply enjoy a deep sense of stillness and peace. You might feel a wave of calm wash over you, experience tingles or warmth & coolness in the body, or drift into a meditative, dreamlike state. Sound healing is often described as a “sonic massage” especially when Tibetan bowls are placed on the body during a 1:1 session. You don’t need to do anything but lie down, get comfortable, and receive.

Who Is It For?

Everyone is welcome—no prior experience is needed. Whether you’re drawn to the science of vibration or the soothing effects of sound, this practice meets you where you are. Sessions are inclusive, accessible, and tailored to support a wide range of emotional, physical, and spiritual needs.

There are some contraindications to be aware of. Sound healing may not be suitable for individuals with sound-induced epilepsy, severe mental health conditions that are unmanaged, or those with pacemakers or certain metal implants, as some instruments create strong vibrations. If you're pregnant, have a serious medical condition, or any concerns, please get in touch beforehand, so we can ensure the session is right for you.

 FAQs

  • If you're joining us at Cedar House Retreat, there's no need to bring much—we provide yoga mats, blankets, and bolsters to help you feel cosy and supported. Just wear comfortable layers and bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. You’re also welcome to bring an eye mask or journal if that feels helpful for you.

If the sound bath is taking place out in the community, please bring your own mat, blanket, and anything else you need to feel comfortable lying down. A cushion for your head, an extra layer, cosy socks and a bottle of water are also recommended.

For outdoor sessions, we’ll always let you know in advance, so you can prepare for the weather as needed.

  • No experience is needed. Sound healing is open, whether you're brand new or have an established spiritual or wellness practice. Just come with an open heart and an open mind.

  • That’s completely natural. Sound can stir and gently release emotions that have been held in the body. You might feel tears rise, laughter bubble up, or simply a sense of lightness or relief. It’s all welcome. You’ll have time to rest and reflect at the end, and I’m always available to support you if anything comes up.

Occasionally, you may experience a headache or a physical pain as the vibrations interact with your body. It is advised to stay hydrated, rest and seek medical advice if you feel it necessary.

  • Sound healing isn’t suitable for those with sound-induced epilepsy, unmanaged serious mental health conditions, or people with pacemakers or certain metal implants. If you’re unsure whether it's safe for you, please get in touch before booking so we can talk it through. I always aim to create a supportive experience for everyone.

  • You’re welcome as often as it feels right for you. Some people attend monthly or weekly to support their nervous system and emotional well-being, while others drop in occasionally as part of their self-care. Trust your intuition—sound healing meets you where you are.

  • Yes. At Cedar House Retreat, we often combine sound healing with cacao ceremonies, plant medicine tea ceremonies, breathwork, yoga, grief support, crafts, rituals, and coaching. These combinations are offered in circles, retreat days or special events, and are designed to work in harmony—amplifying the effects of each practice. You can check the event listings for upcoming combined offerings, or get in touch to discuss a personalised session for you or a group.

  • Standard sound baths are designed for adults, or 16 years old + with parental consent, as they involve stillness and quiet for an extended time. However, I occasionally offer family-friendly or children's sessions—check the events page or contact me if you’re interested in something more tailored.

  • Group sound baths are shared experiences held in a relaxed setting with others, usually unknown to you, where you’re guided through a journey of sound together. They are wonderful for general relaxation, nervous system support, and creating a sense of connection and community.

Private one-to-one sessions are more personalised and intuitive. They allow for deeper energetic work, intention setting, and include a short consultation beforehand.

These are especially helpful if you're navigating grief, transition, ill health, anxiety, or want focused support.

    Private group sessions (2-16 people)

These are a great opportunity for a group of friends, family members or teams to have a carefully tailored, shared experience. These can include other modalities, rituals, crafts, food and drinks.
