Our Story

Founder of Cedar House Retreat | Sound Healing & Breathwork Practitioner | Social Worker | Ceremony Guide

I’m Carly—founder of Cedar House Retreat in Sussex, a mother of three (including twins), and a space-holder for those navigating change, emotion, and reconnection.

I’m also an accredited sound healing practitioner, a nearly certified breathwork facilitator, and a trained group and ceremony guide. My approach weaves together grounded, gentle support with ritual, nature connection, and emotional expression. Sound healing has been a staple in my motherhood journey; releasing trauma caused by traumatic births, relieving symptoms of postnatal anxiety and soothing my mind, body and soul. Sitting in ceremonial circles has been a fundamental part of my journey, releasing old stories, reconnecting to myself and a deep connection to nature has helped me find my joy again.

Grief has been a powerful thread in my life, shaping how I hold space for others. I’ve been in apprenticeship with grief for many years—beginning in childhood and deepening through profound loss in early adulthood. These experiences have taught me the importance of making room for sorrow, without needing to fix or change it. My work is grounded in the belief that grief deserves to be witnessed with care, patience, and tenderness and we heal most by feeling held and heard in community.

With over 20 years of experience working with children and their families, in safeguarding and adoption as a Social Worker—I’ve supported people through life’s most complex and emotional transitions. This foundation continues to shape the way I hold space: with deep care and presence.

As a woman with ADHD, who is also a mother of children with additional needs, I have lived experience of being neurodivergent, I understand the pressures of modern life, modern parenting, the challenge of overwhelm, and the importance of creating spaces where nothing needs to be masked or explained.

All my offerings are designed to be neurodivergent-affirming, trauma-aware, and open hearted—whether you’re joining a women’s circle, a breathwork class, a sound bath, a grief gathering, a tea ceremony, a support group, or a private ceremony.

Whether you’re seeking rest, reconnection, emotional release or spiritual grounding, I offer spaces that are rooted in compassion and care. You don’t need to have all the words. You don’t need to be anyone other than who you are.

You are welcome here—as you are.

Our Space

Cedar House Retreat is held within the grounds of our family home — a sanctuary nestled beneath our wise old cedar tree. Rooted in nature and simplicity, it’s a place where you’re invited to slow down, reconnect, and be held.

At the bottom of our garden, you’ll find The Ceremony Space—a purpose-built studio designed for circles, classes, retreats, and ceremonies. Fully insulated and surrounded by trees and plants, it offers a calm, contained environment for deep rest, emotional release, and reconnection. It’s quiet, cosy, and there’s always a warm herbal tea waiting for you.

For retreat days, we also open the main house — a lived-in, currently being renovated, welcoming family home with space to share meals, sit in circle, and enjoy moments of quiet by the fire. While it’s not a commercial venue, it is a space infused with warmth, care, and intention. Every part of Cedar House Retreat has been created with love — a home-grown sanctuary for rest, change, growth, healing, ritual, and belonging.
