What Is Ceremonial Cacao

Ceremonial cacao is pure, minimally processed cacao made from the whole cacao bean, preserving many of its naturally occurring nutrients and bioactive plant compounds. Unlike commercial hot chocolate, ceremonial cacao contains little or no added sugar and undergoes minimal processing, allowing it to retain more of its natural composition.

Cacao is naturally rich in flavanols, magnesium, iron, potassium, and theobromine. Research suggests that cocoa flavanols can support cardiovascular health by promoting healthy blood flow and helping blood vessels relax through the production of nitric oxide. Theobromine, a naturally occurring methylxanthine, provides a gentle, longer-lasting stimulant effect than caffeine, which many people experience as calm alertness rather than a sudden energy spike.

Cacao also contains small amounts of naturally occurring compounds involved in mood and brain function, including tryptophan, a precursor to serotonin, and phenylethylamine (PEA). While these compounds contribute to cacao's unique chemistry, many are broken down during digestion, so their effects in the body are still being researched.

Is Ceremonial Cacao for me?

Ceremonial cacao is suitable for most people; however, there are some circumstances where additional care may be needed. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a heart condition or concerns relating to your blood pressure, take MAOI antidepressants, are particularly sensitive to caffeine or other stimulants, or have any other medical condition that may affect your participation, please get in touch before booking.

All participants are asked to complete a confidential health questionnaire and waiver before attending. This helps us ensure that ceremonial cacao is suitable for you and allows us to discuss any adaptations or alternative options where needed.
